Appalachian Spring Revisited: The Copland/Vine Project

We're excited to let you know that on Sunday, May 13 (Mother's Day) at 3:00 p.m., NPAC is hosting a free one-hour performance of modern classical music and dance. Presented by Sunday at Central with support from The Johnstone Fund for New Music, "Appalachian Spring Revisited: The Copland/Vine Project" will feature Aaron Copland's "Appalachian Spring" in its original orchestration for 13 instruments and the world premiere of "American Poetics Revisited" by Seattle-based composer Anthony Vine. Both works will include new choreography by Erik Abbott-Main.

This will be a perfect setting to celebrate Mother's Day, as the story of Appalachian Spring explores a young woman on her journey to motherhood. The central part of the work is a series of variations on the famous Shaker melody "The Gift to be Simple." Vine's work draws inspiration from news media junkies, and brims with exciting bursts of musical fragments. Both pieces will be performed by an all-star lineup of Central Ohio's finest classical musicians and a troupe of talented dancers from OSUdance.
